A devoted birder and gardener, Sophie is the executive director of the National Recreation Foundation. Prior to this position, she served as executive director of our partner group Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods, where, for more than ten years, she helped develop environmental programs for adults and older youth with a particular emphasis on science, art and nature and outreach to traditionally underserved communities.

She brings to EcoMyths a rich array of skills and experiences. Having graduated with honors and a certificate in Environmental & Energy Law from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, she previously managed the international conservation programs for The Field Museum and served as assistant director for the Lake Michigan Federation, now known as the Alliance for the Great Lakes. She serves on the boards of the Lake Forest Garden Club, Lake Forest Open Lands and Nature’s Edge, and was a founding member of EarthShare of Illinois, which promotes charitable giving through the workplace.
